Resumption of golf

Golf should be one of the first restrictions lifted as we come out of the lockdown. Golf is not a contact sport, and being played at walking pace it is extremely easy to keep at least 2M apart. Golfers that I played with prior to the lockdown were very sensible, complying with R&A recommendations with no handshakes, bunker rakes removed, ball washers and bells covered over etc. Golf clubs are part of the community throughout Scotland, but sadly many are now in financial difficulty. The golf industry is a large employer in Scotland and needs to get up and running in time for our short summer season. If Aer Lingus can operate flights within the UK with full passenger loads surely it is much safer to have golfers outside in the fresh air keeping well apart.

Why the contribution is important

To save jobs at golf clubs and to enable the population to get safe exercise

I live on South Uist, no reported cases, locked down from the outside world, we have a golf course with approx 20 local members, (max) no clubhouse currently, just the course. As it stands I walk my dog with my prtner regularly on the course, but I cannot walk on the course with another or indeed on my own and hit a ball? Social distancing during, before & after is as straight forward as it can be. Allowing this would benefit the well being of a few, surely the well being of a few is a good start.

Golf is an outdoor activity that can be played safely at a safe distance with minimal changes . It has been proved that this sport is both mentally and physically beneficial . Guidelines have already been prepared by golfs governing body "The R&A " and have been submitted to the government with recommendations of safe working practises . Golf has resumed in most other countries in the world as one of the first measures towards normality

Agree with all the other comments re safety and distancing. The golf season is short and weather dependent. We are going to lose clubs foreever unless something is done soon. In some cases these are businesses that have been at the heart of their community for over 100 years.

I agree golf courses should reopen and initially they should be well policed with strict rules re numbers, distancing etc. It has been shown that the risks of catching the Virus are less outside than in an enclosed environment.

I agree golf courses should be one of the first activities to be allowed. It is good for well being and can easily be safe with social distancing.
