Rewarding key workers

Identify key workers via tax coding or benefits system. Such identification would allow rewards to be made easily on future emergencies. Such identification by job type can be found in some other countries' payroll systems.

Why the contribution is important

The public is clapping for key workers every Thursday night. There ought to be a means by which Parliament could ensure it is simple to reward such workers for exceptional work on behalf of us all in emergencies. This could, for example be done by having a special tax rate for a defined period for such workers.

The difficulty comes in identifying who is "key": not all NHS employees are key, for example.

Other than nhs and care staff....no. why should posties and people in shops get more money for just doing the job they've always been paid to do?

They’re not doing the job they’ve always been paid to do...they’re now doing their job in an environment that poses serious risk at ! Their job descriptions won’t mention a huge risk to health. Also, key workers, other than NHS and care workers, include third sector orgs delivering food and essentials to homes of confirmed/suspected Covid cases, bus drivers, taxi drivers, and many more who are putting themselves in harms way just by doing their job so that other people can stay at home.
