Roads Reduction to assist Social Distancing

With the inevitable reduction in contra flow could we rethink road usage to widen out pedestrian space?

This may also be useful for allowing shops to control queuing without an entire pavement being used?

Why the contribution is important

I think this is about making social distancing the priority but leveraging the reduced road usage.

Alternatively, we could try and help the economy by allowing people to travel safely in their cars to the shops and back, rather than making travel hard.

Wow, what an absurd idea. Anyone else have any other ideas to tank the economy whilst we're implementing this one?

This is an excellent idea already being tried out in other countries. People will be more confident of returning to their High Streets and shops if the pavements are less crowded

If we follow the WHO guidelines of 1m distancing then most pavements are adequately sized and we would not need to restrict roads (and we’d also be less likely to run over the people jumping into the middle of the road without looking when trying to pass another person coming in the opposite direction).

Few pavements are >1.8m and we need 3m min to allow for social distancing queuing and safe passing.
    Remove parking.
    Narrow road lanes.
If necessary one way or close roads.
