Runners

Make it compulsory for runners to wear masks. They are impossible to avoid and make little effort to apply social distancing. Many older people are terrified of them.

Why the contribution is important

Runners are the group that most flaunt the social distancing rules and are a real barrier to vulnerable people going out for exercise.

Running while wearing a mask is very difficult, however it's vital that runners give other pedestrians a very wide berth. I run with my partner but we go out at quiet times, go single file when approaching others, and make sure that we are at the very least 2m away from others, crossing the road or running in the road where necessary. It's just about being considerate. Let hope the selfish few don't spoil it for the considerate majority

If runner’s are not being considerate perhaps suggest times (similar to spain) where sport is allowed?

Runners consistently go out of their way to avoid everyone else on the pavement. This is a very poor idea

There are a lot of runners, cyclists and walkers up my road (countryside) who wouldn’t normally be there.

Exercise should be achievable within 1hr, there and back home. Too many people traveling to exercise or abusing the advice to travel to rural areas or areas out with their district making tracking the virus impossible.

I think that we should follow Spain's examples and only allow runners out at certain times. I have had so many runners brush past me while hefting out air.

It is not fair to demonise all runners because some of them are inconsiderate. My husband and I are considerate runners and do make an effort to not pass close to other people on foot.

Running with a mask on is very uncomfortable.

It is not constructive to demonise particular groups of people, e.g. runners. It is people who are inconsiderate - some run, some walk, some cycle, some do all three.

FYI, it is 'flout' the rules, not 'flaunt' them.

Very difficult for some to run with a mask eg asthmatics

We can’t tar everyone with the same brush. We have considerate and non considerate people doing all activities.

Some joggers are very considerate but there are a good number who are not, just as there are couples and families who don't walk single file when passing others, thereby forcing individuals out onto the road or passing by much more closely than they should. It's a bit like the few cyclists who go through red lights. Those who don't follow the 'rules' spoil it for the others who do.

I wish I knew the solution! I guess limiting joggers exercise time to a specific hour at one end of the day or the other might work - but I wouldn't be terribly happy with it if I was a considerate jogger who observed social distancing. Thanks to all who do.
