Sailing

To allow sailing using practical social distancing measures.

Why the contribution is important

Sailing is a large sport within Scotland which can be conducted safely using social distancing measures.
Sailing dinghies can be sailed and raced in single handed boats keeping safe social distances on the water and on shore. Yachts and keelboats can equally be sailed by families and short handed by those in shared households.
Lack of activity is having a negative impact on a sport that creates significant economic benefits to marinas and sailing clubs across Scotland.

    I agree.

For people to endure a longer lockdown and respect the restrictions on large gatherings etc, they also need to be given freedom to participate in outdoor sports and activities that can be carried out with no risk. Sailing, hill walking, and golfing are examples of such activities that we should be allowed to do immediately.

    Agree

All the scientific advice agrees that the virus R value is greatly reduced outdoors. Therefore outdoor exercise is encouraged. Sailing is an outdoor activity that is largely enjoyed with members of the same household. A number of measures could be introduced in order to give a staged approach. Day sailing only, returning to home marina or an anchorage, this would reduce the contact with remote communities.
