School/nursery/Childcare reopening

Let the at risk children back in to school along with the workers kids.

I'm sure there will be still shielding families, and parents who don't work so if they are happy to keep homeschooling for a phase period of time until scotgov decides all back.

Why the contribution is important

Would take the pressure of a full capacity return of students to classrooms and playrooms.
Will allow for the at risk children to be seen everyday to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Will help with ending furlough for certain sector workers who might not be able to return without childcare in place.

Schools should not reopen until after the holidays. There is so much planning and adjustments to be made in order for children to return in August. All children should return to the school & stage they were in when they left in March. They need to go back to a familiar environment & be with people they know and who care about them. We need to nurture first in order to move forward. In October or January they can move on, transitions having taken place. They shouldn’t have to ‘fit in’ to our systems- we only get one chance to do the right thing for them.

Agree that at risk children require childcare and support for many reasons. There are aspects to consider and will require review in order to protect our most vulnerable children and families. Review would need to consider Professionals opinions, experiences and implications of changes of provision currently in place.

This is already permitted and encouraged, but sadly the take up of these places has been incredibly low.

The outcomes of this for at-risk and borderline children and families are likely to be pretty bad, and so some focused encouragement and boosting of social work teams to enable them to encourage and cajole these children back to school would have real benefit... but those teams must be incredibly stretched, and how could more capacity really be built in the short time we need it to be...

The longer we are in lockdown the more detrimental it is to the majority of society, our health well being, mental and physical health. Yes their needs to be precautions and additional measures to support a return. The one big unknown due to no reliable tests being available is, how many have already had the virus. I believe that this may well be far more than we realise, yet if we continue with lockdown we are seriously damaging the future generation in ways that are just not normal. Humans are sociable creatures and keeping us apart is detrimental. You children thrive and learn naturally in nursery/school environments so we need to get them back, albeit in a phased manner but this needs to start soon.
