School reopening

All community halls, conference centres open for schooling. Social distancing tape lines marked. Emergency exits open by teacher for entry of 5- 6 kids. Google classroom used to set work. No touching of jotters. PPE equipment for use by teachers and especially when dealing with an accident.

Playtimes will be skipping drill etc at distance.

Pack lunches outside or at desks.

Toilets supervised and disinfected every time used.

Trainee teachers to be deployed to small classes as a placement and supervised my manager.

Retired teachers back in to take small classes.

Technology used to assign work and board work assigned. Basic old fashioned teaching.

Classes will be in years groups and distributed in available areas. All children taught same lessons and differentiation by child groupings.

No canteen. Pack lunches brought to the children.

All equipment for lessons named and marked in s box that is only touched by those children. Open windows and outdoor learning encouraged. Ultiviolet light or disinfected classrooms each night.

Parents do not enter the school and kept at distance. No front reception on duty for anything other than phone and paperwork.

All parent correspondence by e mail or phone.

All teachers enter only their classroom by emergency door and do not enter any other area of the building other than toilets. Photocopier is not used and it's chalk and talk.

The teaching day will be intense and therefore may need to be slightly shortened. At least in the trial phase.

Children need to be temperature tracked and registered each morning. The tape guide lines for walking must be individually followed.

Handwash and disinfect available.

Test all teachers before starting schooling.

All children back to school and not phased. Preparation must start immediately.

Even if a trial run in June. Then lockdown for summer.

In the event of rising infection detected with schooling then lockdown must be put into immediate effect.

Why the contribution is important

Trial run of schooling is important before summer

Sadly we are not in the stone ages! This would promote fear in children and where are all the retired teachers coming from?!

Some good ideas here for eventual resumption, but author clearly not experienced in schools - eg most classrooms do not have individual emergency exits.
As a retired teacher who worked in a hub school over Easter I can tell you this would not work. Social distancing is impossible with young children. Regular testing of staff (and ideally children) is the key, even after mass vaccination starts.

Your suggestion terrifies me and I'm 32. I dread to think how a 6 year old would feel

I definitely think we need to test and maybe someone somewhere needs to do a survey/collation of data as to how many teachers or children have become infected since working in the hubs for key workers 🤷‍♀️

Talk and chalk? Old fashioned teaching? This person clearly doesn't have experience of current schooling and child development. Children need nurture more now than ever. Testing children and adults, regular hand washing, decrease in class size and only opening schools when it is safe to do so with a combination of online learning until safer to increase class size.

Whilst there are some good ideas re infection control within the original post, unfortunately I feel much isn’t practical. The main one being that nursery - P5 (at least) actually cannot social distance, and it would be inhumane to try and enforce this. I am a teacher helping look after key worker children so have seen this in action. Also, most classrooms don’t have their own emergency exit.

Some good ideas... like the uv light disinfectant if possible. Temp checking also a great idea. Open windows and outdoor learning. Hand sanitizer and parent comma by email. All will reduce risks as subsequently infection rates too.

It would be better if they didn’t open then opened as institutional prison type establishments!
