School Returning

I suggest that 2020-21 becomes an extraordinary school year, in that schools return when safe to do so, but there is no long summer holiday - 3 weeks most perhaps. By shortening the holiday and perhaps spacing out all the other interim holidays, the children could catch up on their education by having them in school longer than a normal year. This plan allows for parents to get back to work quicker. If there is a long summer holiday, those parents ability to return to work is delayed and this could have a detrimental effect on the family, their finances and their career prospects. Take 2 weeks from the summer holidays and add them to the Christmas Holiday which enable the children to have a longish time off, but not too long. It will allow the families to perhaps travel for a holiday to visit relatives in other countries, or allow relatives to come and visit them from other countries.

Why the contribution is important

It will allow the children to catch up on lost education and allow parents to return to work sooner. It will also enable families still to have some 'holiday' time rather than enforced time together, which will assist with mental health issues.

As a school worker I don’t want 4 weeks off in the winter and I don’t think many families will have finances to travel abroad, even if we are allowed by then
