School returns

I feel that if there’s no return to school until after the summer break, children will need time to reconnect & establish themselves again into the school environment & routines.
So bearing that all in mind my suggestion is, if all children go back to the school year they were in eg Primary 1, they start back again to that year until the Oct break. Then start their new term from after the Oct break eg move up to Primary 2.

Why the contribution is important

I feel this will allow the children & staff we connect , regroup & recap on their learning journeys. That way if there are any gaps in their learning/knowledge, they can be identified & addressed .
I feel that if it’s after the summer break , these children will have been discounted from any real environment for over 23 wks.

No return to school until after the summer

I think there will need to be a short transition period - e.g. meet the teacher events especially for those starting P1

The social and emotional benefits of school for our children is vital. The interaction of children together is vital to their development and future life chances. All this is best managed in a safe school environment. The impact of children missing out on vital social development will potentially impact on their lives for years to come. Providing a nurturing and safely managed environment can be achieved with careful consideration. The impact of children being off school until August will have too much of a detrimental impact on them and their families. We need to have a plan to get them back prior to the summer break. For the benefit of them and generations to come

Think this is a great idea. Covid-19 is going to have a massive impact on childrens emotional wellbeing and transitions from a stand alone early years centre to different primary schools is a big step. Children could come back to nursery for the first term Aug-Oct and reconnect with peers and staff in a safe secure environment. Transitions visits could take place to build children’s confidence and reassurance.

They could potentially go back to the same year group they were in, but lots of children will go back to a different teacher.

Retirements, promotions, NQTs moving on etc. There’s 5 classes in my school that wouldn’t have the same teacher in August as the staff are moving on.

So this is something to consider - if it does happen, it won’t be consistent in that every child gets to go back and be with their current teacher until October. It would be a mix due to new staff.
