Schools

I think a majority are happy that schools are closed and accepting and supporting of the fact that schools shouldn't return for the rest of this school year. However there is no getting away from how stressful this time is for families trying to navigate Google Classroom and the many other learning resources that are being encouraged to be completed along with the stress facee by teachers trying to source the material, find ways to present the material to the parents and then provide feedback. The long weekend we just had where there was no school logins, even if simply to register, required was blissful and Facebook became awash with pictures of baking, posters and bunting that families had taken time to make together. Why can we not "stop school" just now and start our 6 week Summer holidays? Take the stress away from families and teachers having to navigate their way round "home schooling". Yes we can't travel anywhere or go for day trips but we can bake, draw, play etc as it's not sounding very likely that the School Holidays this Summer are going to be able to be filled with foreign adventures or even distant rambling in our own beautiful country. It would mean that parents or guardians could take some annual leave just now and not have to also find annual leave for the Summer Holidays. Following the Summer Holidays our country may be in a better position to welcome classes back to "finish" this school year for a few weeks - while adapting to any social distancing measures that are required then. This would let children finishing Primary 7 have their Leavers Ceremony and Induction Days for their new chapter in education and the young adults leaving their education to bid farewell to their peers and have any proms etc

Why the contribution is important

As we recognise education as important, we recognise smooth transitioning to the next chapter of children's education, we recognise starting work in the big bad world and leaving school as important. We recognise that this is a stressful time for all without the added pressures of "home schooling"

I like the idea of going back to school a week earlier in August to allow the transition that would have happened before the end of June.
