Schools

Smaller classes part time in June, start August in same primary/nursery/ class you were in and switch to next stage after October holidays so make transition easier for all. Make the June lessons all be play sessions for early years and the transition for p7s up to Sec school.

I think class changing in October is a good idea for primary aged children, I’m not sure it would work practically with secondary though

Unnecessary to be in same class until October.
Term 4 is often a bit of a write off towards the end with trips, sports etc.
Every school year would have a knock on effect forever more doing this.
Longer transition for P1 with longer period of half days after summer.
More support in s1 with buddy system etc in secondary.

    That would be more effective

This is a great idea. Being done already in many European countries. It would also allow teachers more opportunity to be in school with colleagues to prepare for the return after the summer.

Part time and smaller classes in June, resume in August back to normal. Transition for p7 into S1s should take place in June.
Or could school begin earlier to catch up on missed school. Perhaps beginning August.

My worry is how teachers can be protected and young children social distancing

i agree kids need to get back to school. Changing the date to move in would be a good idea to help them catch up and to keep them with those teacher they are familiar with during the changes.

P7 transition cannot take place effectively in June - there will be no secondary teachers or pupils in the secondary schools so they’d just be walking round an empty building - this is not sufficient for a transition. Postpone the move up to S1 until October or Sep weekend.
