Schools re open for certain age groups

Allow children to be able to return to school in June on a part time basis, especially p6/p7 and s4/s5/s6. This would allow p7 children to prepare for moving schools etc, allowing all children at least 1 week of school before summer break. June is an important month for children as it prepares them for moving up a class, they get to meet new teachers etc, these might seem like little things but for children they are important and often cause worry and anxiety, hence why schools do bump up days to help children. Opening for a short time in June would mentally help lots of children especially those in mainstream on support plans that would normally have extra bump up time to prepare them for change, this would also allow schools to trial new ways of working and then have the summer to get what works best set up. Opening schools before children are able to mix with others outside a school setting would be better. If schools returned in June then those children that attend should only mix with people in school and their household during June and for 2 weeks after schools close for summer to prevent any spread of virus. Schools should have plenty of supplies to allow regular hand washing etc, a staggered arrival and departure for schools could be set up so that less parents are picking children up at the same time

Why the contribution is important

This would help children’s mental healthy, children are missing interacting with others, it would help children during the summer holidays where they still won’t be able to do most of the things they normally do. It would allow schools to trial a schooling system that works best for children and teachers safety. Children being able to attend school even part time will allow parents to work and avoid parents having to send children to older relatives

I just don’t see how everything could be put in place for this in June. The guidance would have to come out very quickly regarding PPE for staff, ratios, taped out playgrounds, staggered breaks, rotas set up etc. I think all the planning should be focused on going back in August.

I agree we all understand the importance of getting children back ASAP but I work in a very large primary school and even bringing back two year groups is over 200 children in the school building.

See my sons school doesn’t even have 200 kids in total, I do know many areas uk wide that have already got plans in place ready to set up if schools are to open this side of the summer so would seem some council areas are prepared
