Scot Gov's response to Covid

The Scottish Government's decision to keep us locked-up longer than England will have a negative impact on the support for Scottish independence.

Nemo me impune lacessit

Why the contribution is important

People will be far less likely to support further divergence from the UK if the consequences are we have a less tolerant and trusting Government than other people on this island.

Don’t agree. Although I have never been a supporter of independence, I have been very impressed with what appears to be the intelligent and science led approach suggested by Ms Sturgeon. I would be more inclined to vote for independence as a result.

I hear on the news today that the Scottish Government have started to relax the lockdown. We can now exercise TWICE per day.

After reading all the hundreds of calls on this discussion for a meaningful increase in the amount of non contact outdoor activities we should be allowed to participate in, which would not pose any risk, hearing this TINY increase in our freedom sounds like an insult.

I REALLY hope the Scottish Government actually listen to this discussion and really make some meaningful changes starting with things with no risk like outdoor sporting activities much discussed here VERY soon. If they do not, then this consultation will be taken to be a meaningless PR stunt.

If the public are treated with contempt, after trying hard to contribute to a sensible debate, then I think the rules will very soon start to be treated with the same contempt.

I don't think this will be the case if, in the slightly longer term, the cases in scotland are more controlled than in england or other countries. I was glad to hear the news today that scotland will remain more "locked down" for now as we are not yet reduced enough in numbers of cases to be allowing more laxity. It strengthened my view that the FM is trying to put our country first. I understand why rules may be relaxed more in england as the case numbers are reducing but I appreciate regions may differ from this.

The UK and Scottish Governments have been equally shambolic in their management of the crisis, and true leadership has been sorely missing. The FM and the PM both speak very well, but the test of leadership is trust, and I personally wouldn't trust either of them. They talk about being 'led by the science', but the expert guidance seems at variance with views expressed by numerous non-government experts who actually work in this very specialised field of medicine.

To move forward, we need a leader who is less risk adverse, and has the strength of character to deliver a more pragmatic strategy, which gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to take responsibility for their own health and that of employees / customers.

I think it will reduce the support for Independance. The FM has managed to use every desciption possible around the 4 nations taking a similar route without actually saying 'better together' and i applaud her for that but the underlying message from her is quite clear. I hope people have the foresight to consider what would have happened had we been on a road to Independance at this juncture. Out of the EU and oil prices at 20% of the level required. Borrowing at the maximum level to reduce the deficit and then Covid-19 on top of that. Made me think and shudder at the thought.

FM keeps trying to justify her position by saying our R number is higher than England, yet can't supply any evidence to support that. People posting on here who are desperate to stay in lockdown need to get some perspective. The numbers are miniscule and you have more chance of dying of a thousand other things than Covid. The virus isn't going away so we need to learn to live with it and manage the risk and get on with our lives before they aren't worth living. How many patients have been admitted to the Louisa Jordan? Why is FM never asked by the reporters at the daily briefing about why Sweden have much lower numbers but don't have any lockdown? We are in lockdown because of a failing of government to properly manage the risk by more sensible means.
