Scotland should not be different

Rules need to be the same throughout the UK as people can travel freely throughout the UK. If there need to be differences in certain areas then this should be purely based on infection rates in certain places and not because of different decision makers. Parts of England still have high levels of infection and parts of Scotland have very low levels.

Why the contribution is important

Need same rules throughout UK

Totally agree. Unless there is a variation on lockdown release based on small geographical areas then we should work as one on this.

Scotland should do what is appropriate for Scotland. If this country needs to stay in lockdown a little longer than our direct neighbours, England and Northern Ireland, then so be it. Imagine this, if all four nations came out of lockdown at exactly the same time, despite some being borderline, and the infection rate took off again in one country, would you expect all four nations to re-enter lockdown together? It’s a very difficult balancing act and I’d rather avoid the need to go into lockdown for a second time.

The focus also seems to be on the Scotland/England border, but there is also travel between Northern Ireland and Scotland. Currently I imagine that’s restricted to freight lorries.

Yes; as far as possible and appropriate.
But where it is felt that the UK government is failing in dealing with the situation or the measures and approaches being put forward do not fit with the Scottish situation, the Scottish government has the ability to adjust measures accordingly.
Accordingly, I would expect the Scottish government to work hard to be a part of the UK team in dealing with this but, at the same time being very aware of any specific circumstances and needs in Scotland that would not be best served by the specific actions being put forward by the UK government.
Scotland will play its part in the UK but the Scottish government also has, as its prime mandate, the safety, security and health of the people of Scotland.

Ideally yes, however our curve has been pretty flat and our R number is not as good as say London or the Midlands which would imply the rate of infection in the community is still too high to relax the rules. If we are taking a UK wide approach the UK should move at the speed of the worst hit country. Unfortunately I doubt Englandshire will want to do that!
