Sibling groups in school & social distance

To help with social distancing in the wider picture and because it seems that classes will be small it could be worth considering small composite classes planned around sibling groups. With some thought it could work at primary level. It would reduce the extent of contact with others, ensuring that within each small group there can be at least a little contact between siblings etc. For example two pairs of siblings at p4 and P1 level and two children without siblings but from the same stage as one of the others.

In terms of teaching and learning a mix of ability and maturity is always a strength in a class. I think it could help whilst also supporting kids emotionally and easing some anxiety for parents.

Why the contribution is important

When we are in a safe position to reopen schools it is clear that they will look very different. Composite classes are great environment s for learning. This approach would be support the mental health as well as the physical health of our youngest pupils. Mental health through maintaining family connections, physical by keeping their mixing 'bubble' small and more controlled.
