Social contact

Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m a 40 year old male, divorced and I lice alone except when I have my 8 yr old son staying. I do have a girlfriend that I started seeing at Christmas time, but I’m sticking with the lockdown rules so have not been able to see her - or interact with other person who is not a retail person.
Please lift the ban on people seeing their partners. otherwise, I am happy to maintain the social distancing and lockdown rules for the greater good - but we need to be sensible about human contact.
Kind regards
Colin Mackay

This could be an acceptable social bubble as long as both were not mixing further and didn’t live with other people. Risks wider socialisation if perception on social distancing are compromised

This could apply to lots of people. Most of us are having to go without seeing family members. I’m worried that if we change the lockdown rules for one then it would be difficult to maintain them for others. I do understand the isolation and the loneliness but how do you distinguish between some one who has a partner for 6 months or 2 months etc. I think this would be trying to walk a fine line and may open the floodgates for people to move from one household to the next.

I follow NZ press briefings and applaud the social bubble concept. They can increase/decrease according to need . The impact - if applied appropriately - on the R figure would seem minimal compared to HWB benefits for those supporting and following Govt guidelines.

Just as important is the fear of isolation fatigue and people taking this matter into their own hands without govt direction and risk undoing all good achieved to date.

I agree with this. I do think some people are already doing this despite the lockdown.
Overall, for those who are following the other guidelines and using common sense self regulation this is a move which could be very beneficial to people’s mental health.
