The countries that have come out of this well are the ones who restricted travel from hotspot countries early on, like New Zealand and Australia. I sat in the Cafe at Nevis Range near Fort William watching Chinese tourists piling off buses with face masks on and cramming into gondolas just a few weeks before lockdown. And then I turned on the news to watch Boris Johnson shaking hands with everyone.
People entering the UK even now do not have to self isolate.
What are our politicians thinking?
If our politicians really wanted to protect their population the most effective, easiest and cheapest solution would have been to stop the virus coming here in the first place.
They need to formulate a policy for immediate action like this next time. And there will be a next time as very little is going on to close up the wildlife markets where this started.
