Study of people not recieving any financial support
People are falling through the gaps in support funding.
I am one those!
I have not heard back from DWP since the start of lockdown regarding contributions based job seekers.
I am a business owner with premesis, signed off from planning for change of use in November 19.
Apparently it has not been assessed for valuation roll between then and mid March, so not eligible for small business grant.
I worked in employment until 31st January, I was confident then that I had a diary full of appointments and booking to sustain a living. No back up having paid off start up debt.
Thus, not making me eligible for hardship fund.
Even then, the hardship fund over 3-4 months is very tight to live off with business expenses.
People can not afford to feed families and pay bills.

Why the contribution is important
People are living on no income at present.

If landlords start going bust and the houses are repossessed, there will be a lot of homeless tenants as well.

I have paid taxes for 30 years + but apparently deserve less support than someone who was in employment for the single month of February
My work requires me to travel and so I can not earn. All earnings are generated outside Scotland but all taxed in Scotland due to my residence. Scotland is getting more than a fair deal there!
The minority of us who are not eligible for grants have not been given automatic rights of deferral of taxes. So, those with no income supposed to pay tax on time to allow that cash to subsidise others. I don’t think so!
As a minimum, we should be allowed to access what savings we might have in our pension funds to live on NOW. Unlike grant schemes this would cost government nothing!
