Superillas

My idea is related to allowing cafes/restaurants/pubs to open while still respecting social distancing rules.
It's based of the concept of superillas that they have implemented in Barcelona, where they close off a 9 square grid where no traffic is allowed. This way the space could be used to set tables for local food/drink shops that are two meters apparat. This would also give people on foot more space to be able to actually walk with enough room within each other.

The businesses that do not fall into the Superilla grid could be allowed to operate as take aways and the ones that do fall inside it not. To perhaps "level out the playing flied."

The traffic is allowed to circulate normally around the perimeter, just not inside of it.

This is the official website of the Barcelona project (only in Spanish or Catalan but there are also good pics to exemplify) https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/superilles/es

Why the contribution is important

It would really work within our "new normal" giving us the chance to interact with people a bit more, be outside and reclaim space for cars, while at the same time allowing local businesses to not go broke.

I think this is a great idea as it also deals with pollution issues (which kills thousands) in the inner city and has shown to actually in "normal times" to improve business and make the city more liveable which boosts mental health (something at this moment we all desperately need).

I couldn’t care if pubs and cafes don’t re open. They are not essential. Drinking alcohol leads to accidents and fights and more people in A&E. It is much safer eating your own cooking. Even outside we need space on street for walking.

The superillas also give pedestrians more space (which I mentioned). And this is not just for pubs and people getting drunk, is also local restaurants and cafe what might not survive being shut for so long.
This is also supossed to be a productive space for discussion. Let's keep it respectful!

Take a look at the superilla´s in Barcelona it provides space for active transit and walking and kids to play. You might not care if certain businesses are open but people have their livelihoods to protect and their staff´s to look out for.
