Many small businesses have been able to furlough staff but traditionally the business owners will pay themselves with a combination of PAYE (at about £715 a month) and dividends. They usually take the hit if the business isn't doing so well.
Unfortunately, there has been no support for business owners as the UK government claim it would have been too complicated in the timescales (see repetition on this topic). This means many people are suffering financially and may need to shut down their business operations.

Why the contribution is important
Keeping business owners financially supported helps keep their business viable and is a fair option given there is support for both traditional employees and the self employed
