Swimming pools

Opening swimming pools and starting exercise classes eg pilates for over 45’s who are already members of that leisure centre using a booking system to limit numbers and not accepting new membership applications during this time.

Why the contribution is important

Many older people do not feel comfortable or are unable to exercise outdoors sue to arthritis etc and need the low impact environment of the pool.

In some cases health both physical and mental will be suffering due to these facilities being closed also many local centres for example enjoy leisure in East Lothian are charities and need the membership revenue.

    I do miss the regular swimming, terribly.
    But while it would feel reasonably safe in the water, I would risk using the changing facilities only after testing positive for antibodies.

    Changing facilities could be set up so that say only every third cubicle was open. The rest being locked out by the centre.

    I think swimming pools should be open for swim clubs to begin with. Clubs could limit/Stagger their groups to ensure social distancing is happening within the pool and the changing rooms. For many young adults swimming is their form of exercise and social activity and many are
