Taking the elderly within the household out for a drive.

Allowing people to take elderly family members who live with them out for a drive, especially those who are unable to go out for a walk as a result of age or where they live. There would be a little chance of any adverse effect on the demand for the services of the NHS if no-one left the car but there would be substantial mental health benefits. For some a drive in the country is one of the few pleasures left and in the case of the very old the remaining opportunities may be quite few.

Why the contribution is important

There are many old people who would benefit from a view of spring from outside their home. Being able to take an elderly relative for a drive in the country would help them to enjoy the wonders of the natural world coming back to life during a particularly good period of weather. My 94 year old mother having been confined to the house for so long seems to be losing interest in life; I am sure that she isn't the only one. Keeping people safe is fine but, if it involves severely reducing their enjoyment of the limited time they might have left, it looks rather pointless. (The arguments about not overwhelming the NHS are well understood but if people stay in the car there is little likely increase in the need for the organisation's services.)
