The right to work from home
Perhaps now is the time to enshrine the right for employees to work from home in law if their job can effectively be carried out without having to go to a central workplace.
Why the contribution is important
The lockdown has demonstrated that a significant number of jobs can be done just as well from home. By making this a worker's right, it would mean that employers could not force employees to return to an office environment where they might be at risk from infection.
There are potential spin off benefits:
Reduction of traffic on the roads.
Lower requirements for child care during school breaks.
Less pressure on public transport.
Reduction in workplace bullying and harassment.
Single parents may be encouraged back to work.
