Tighten lockdown (bigger impact and faster release)

Continue with lockdown for a further 3 weeks but tighten restrictions

*letter everyone with shopping slot
*only one person shopping where possible
*people must carry letter with them to leave house
*ask retired cops to volunteer and do spot checks (no contact required). Road block idea. Member of public asked to show letter and ID through car window (or essential worker ID)
*if travelling in car out-with allocated time slot then ticket would be issued
*public transport also given same guidelines so only key workers allowed to travel

Why the contribution is important

People are lifting lockdown measures themselves because they are trusted by the government to do the right thing. More and more rule breaking is being justified individuals (birthdays, social distance visits etc) while other people are not allowed to see their families or attend funerals.

Completely lockdown and police it properly for 3 weeks then hopefully we will see a massive impact and be able to lift lockdown measures without a backlash

No thank you to this idea

I think your idea is completely daft

Yes, short term pain for long term gain: eradicate the virus from the UK so we don't have to ever repeat lockdown again and can return to normal living sooner rather than later.

Emphasise the real risks of virus spread - contacting other people or their nasal droplets- and how to avoid - social distancing & hand washing - but keep a sense of reality and proportion. Despite the best claims, this is going to go on for a long time. We need to live as normally as possible.

Think it’s to soon to lift lockdown not enough people taking it seriously

I agree tougher measures and fines for those that break them!

Agree with all you have said except not just for 3 weeks it should be indefinitely until the experts say it's the right time, there are too many already breaking the rules & jeopardising the sacrifices made by people so far, give some an inch & they take a mile, just talking about the possibility of reducing lock down & folk are behaving like morons,

Policing has been a complete joke so far.

This is dangerous authoritarian nonsense which will prove costly to our most basic civil liberties which we have seen eroded and will be immensely damaging to mental and physical health. If you only allow people out of their house to shop, many people will lack the ability to exercise and relieve stress and will feel increasingly trapped.

We have already seen tragic occurrences as a result of this lockdown, including the suicide of a student at Loughborough University. Now is when we should be looking to recognise the damage this is doing to mental health and ease restrictions, rather than tightening them further and risking similar tragedy.

I don't think this is a good idea, too restrictive on movement and personnel. Roadblocks would be needed everywhere. The police already have the power to stop and question.
  • Posted by Djalaodbdld May 07, 2020 at 06:06

Absolutely not. People are breaking lockdown already and this will just drive more people to do so. Consideration of the wider picture needs to be taken in to account.

Lockdown can not continue indefinitely and quite frankly this suggestion is ridiculous. People are all ready cracking under current restrictions and is causing significant other issues with mental health domestic abuse other illnesses etc. Ridiculous in this day and age that a virus has done this to the world. Test and trace way forward not more restrictions when the vast majority of the population won’t be too effected by this and will get it at some point anyway. Personally I’d rather get it over and done with as quick as possible.

Apart from lettering everyone with shopping slot I agree with stronger measures as we can all see the irresponsible ones ignoring the present advice despite the horrendous numbers of dead Perhaps they don’t listen to the briefings or the news

    No absolutely not

Authoritarian rubbish, clearly posted by someone who doesn't have school age children, mental health issues, lockdown fatigue or a resistance to living in a police state. There is more to life than an R-number - early cancer diagnoses and treatment of existing conditions, exercise somewhere other than on crowded suburban pavements, quality time spent with loved ones, the ongoing maintenance of our homes, earning enough money to avoid destitution and supporting all the people receiving their incomes from the State, ensuring children receive a formal education for as much time as possible, etc etc.
