Personally I do not feel like all children should be put back to school so soon. I don’t relish the idea of my children being guinnea pigs. My five year old is not classed as vulnerable despite having asthma and suffering a past critical illness effecting the lungs with complications of pneumonia and a collapsed lung, if he were to get this I know fine well it wouldn’t go well. There have been multiple children who have caught covid and suffered greatly including now being linked to the Kawasaki like disease. There is absolutely no way on this earth that most normal or large schools will be able to effectively ensure social distancing. Our children have been apart from their friends for far too long and all it will take is a lick of excitement and they will be all over each other.
Also who is going to police this? Do you expect the teachers to put this on top of their already strenuous workload? How do you expect them to teach the children who are struggling if they cannot get close to them? Will they be provided with the pure amount of PPE they would require to safely teach a classroom of children? How do you expect social distancing to take place inside school buildings where they have been built for aesthetics and not functionality such as my children’s school. Drop off and pick up alone would be a nightmare never mind trying to keep the children a safe distance apart in the hallways/lunch hall/classroom.
On top of this I think it would be absolutely stupid to make a quick decision about children going back without giving schools an adequate timeframe to implement the changes that will be needed. Teachers were put through hell when they decided to shut schools at such a last minute. Let’s not do that to them again when re-opening.

Time needs to be taken so that each school can safely re open at a rate that they feel they can cope with taking into account the well-being of their children. Especially those who are younger or have special needs.

Why the contribution is important

Schools and teachers need time to prepare. We cannot rush this and put not only our children’s health at risk but the health and mental wellbeing of our school staff who would be yet again put under a huge strain.
