Training for vulnerable groups: Standard Infection Control Precautions and Transmission Based Precautions

If people in the vulnerable groups and shielding are trained, by professionals and not media or long guidelines documents, the they will be able to live a “freer” life. They will be able to know what to do and how to do it if they want to go out for their shopping and just do what they did before (once everything else restarts) but have the knowledge that if they follow the precautions explained above they can manage their own situation.

Why the contribution is important

This group of people had a life they were living, with their own conditions before lockdown, not all are frail and in need of support by another individual.

If the government provides them with accurate information instruction and training, they will be able to continue in some capacity with their old lives and risk assess for themselves if what they want to do is feasible and will take responsibility for it.

The shielding group will be those in this crisis the longest. Including their kids. With some basic training in how to use masks and gloves etc they can at least go out for a drive, click and collect shopping etc. Help them to help themselves.

Telling people in the shielded group they are to isolate themselves from society for many more months is totally unrealistic. Many of these people are well used to managing their illness etc and are used to living with risk. They should at least have the option of advice etc as explained above to allow them the option of returning to some form of ‘normality’.
