Transition for P7

we should ensure P7 pupils get a chance to either repeat P7 or have a transition from old to new before all pupils return as the worry will cause a high percentage of children who already suffer from nerves or lack of confidence to dwell and worry on the S1 commencement.

Why the contribution is important

it is needed to benefit the welfare of children who are suffering a loss of closure and comfort in moving on with support from the peers they know.

as a parent who's daughter is very young in her year group - with a Feb birthday - and an ADHD diagnosis, she would really benefit from getting a full and as thorough a finish to P7 and transition to High School as possible. Simply dropping her in S1 in August - or whenever that happens - would not work well for her at all.

I dare say there are other parents with children with more severe issues such as ASD who would agree. I'm not sure I'd agree with a whole repeat of P7 but if this would be the only way to facilitate a full transition then so be it.

PS - you are doing a great job being honest and up front with the Scottish public. Well done - you have my full support.

If all P7 children repeat their last year at Primary School what will happen to ‘new’ 5 year olds going to school?

I agree that transition pupils need to be prioritised when looking at school returns.

I would suggest getting transitioning pupils back in August (is guidelines allow) and then all over pupils 2 weeks later. Allows a phased approach to having pupils in schools again and would enable education bosses to deal with any teething problems whilst allowing pupils the support of both their existing teachers and new teachers

Children are resilient, most will be fine going to high school, teachers should target the vulnerable kids or those who need extra support
