Travel to be active

I'm fortunate, in so much as, I live in a quiet rural area in Lochaber. I can access woodlands and traffic free tracks to cycle and walk, following current guidelines. My whole life I've been active in the outdoors. I'd like to be able to travel out to the coast, with my sea kayak and paddle with friends who are in a similar situation. Can we get a test to confirm we are healthy, before setting out? We would be self-contained, with no need to mingle with strangers. A distance of say 50 miles from home would help. I believe this is being allowed in some European countries (France).

Why the contribution is important

Quality of life and meeting up with friends who have been in lock-down.

Fully support this. I'm sick of falling over other people, kids on bikes etc, joggers. I want my quiet isolated walks back. Also my dog doesn't understand social distancing 🙄

I totally support this idea but it would have to be local travel only as we wouldn't want the rural areas to become flooded with folk from other areas who potentially are spreading the virus

We too loved our quiet dog walks on the beach and in woodland - hate being with so many people crowding on the pavements.

I enjoy walking but can no longer do long distances. It is surely safer to drive a short distance to a quiet place, for instance a beach or a nature reserve, than to walk to an overcrowded local park, or along a cycle lane, risking being mowed down by joggers and cyclists in the process? How far we need to drive depends on where we live: my heart bleeds for those who live in run-down urban areas.

I agree with being able to drive a certain distance to access quieter areas to enjoy the countryside. However , I do not think that this should allow the meeting up with friends unless it is under a clear increased bubble arrangement

Maybe the upcoming bluetooth app could be used, as part of travel further afield with friends. All of the group should have been tested, before travel. I'm not recommending this for large groups.

Even if this was initially only for people with disabilities it would be extremely advantageous.

Agree. Should perhaps be a limit on the distance that people can travel. Maybe 10 or 20 miles tops. It is counterproductive to "kettle" people on High Streets and in built up areas which actually increases risk.

Looking into the future. How would this process work?
    1. Get tested.
    2. If clear of the virus, stay at home for a further 14 days.
    3. Being tested and clear for 14 days gains an accredited medical virus travel in Scotland visa, issued by your doctor.
    4. This visa allows you to travel in a bubble of friends with a similar visa in Scotland.
    5. Car stickers/badges could be issued.
    6. With the freedom to travel a little farther in Scotland, you need to be very responsible and not mix with people outside of your bubble. Take a lot of care with hand washing and personally I'd wear a mask. My activities in the outdoors are more easily controlled, as they involve remote camping. They also require the mountain rescue teams and RNLI to be in agreement

Not sure if this could work, but worth talking about. Be careful.
