Invest in people not companies often owned by bigger companies or individuals from abroad.

UBI does a whole lot more than simply assist the most vulnerable, it transforms the whole employment structure. Employers essentially top up UBI to the necessary going wage level thereby setting the salary differential. The current system means tests income pre work, during work, and after work. Only reason UK government likes this socialist style means control is that the poor half of society is regarded as a commodity.

What a difference this would have made to people if it had already been in place. It is a logical step forward

For self employed people unable to return to earning at previous rates for a long time eg physical therapists who work privately with individuals in vulnerable groups, this will cover basic needs when others go back to work and national schemes get withdrawn.

It is also going to reduce poverty across the nation and remove a huge bureaucratic system of means testing for benefits and allow shame free access to basic needs for shelter, food and heating. The staff in that system will benefit from reduced stress and be able to focus on getting people suitable work, supported workplaces and encouraging/training for either employability or self employed success on whatever hours they can initially cope with.

Making Scotland the place people want to live and work because it values their individual contributions even if productivity is limited by personal circumstances or experience, pandemic fall out or national shifts in how we operate moving forward.
