Universities/colleges consult with students on restart plans

Universities and colleges need to be clear about first term plans and adopt a potentially differentiated approach between 1st and final yrs. Also those courses which have a large practical element and cannot move to be online. Young people are very vulnerable with limited job prospects so do not dash their hopes of a prompt restart. Students are not convinced institutions are working in their best interests. Need to hear more about how these organisations are consulting with their customer base and developing joint solutions. These can be found. Some unis are trying harder than others.

Why the contribution is important

Young people need hope about the future. Many ambitions have been dashed and job offers lost. Perception is COVID is not a disease that affects them but the consequences of lock down do. Adherence to lockdown measures is at risk. Post school education system is important to this group. Destroying hopes and plans by being too focused on impact on the institution and its staff, rather than on the student is a false economy. Be seen to engage more with this age group and develop joint solutions, FAST.

Working at a university at the moment I know that this is being done. The discussions are being had with the student union as it is impossible to speak to each student.

You should voice your concerns with your student union
