What about the Arts

Exit strategies must include discussions around return of performing music both for professionals and amateurs for whom music is a major source of income and or mental health sustainment.

Guidance should be given for groups to gather again to play and perform

Agree and would add the visual arts and performing arts along with music represent a sector which needs more government support for a range of reasons. It would be good to look to Ireland and Germany who recognise artists play an important role in society - community projects, creating an energy that brings visitors, and during this lockdown people have relied on the creative arts to a huge extent to get through the day whether it’s tv, or more direct online festivals, reading etc.

Artists often work long hours for little pay and under hazardous conditions frequently restoring and cleaning venues themselves without clear health and safety. Projects that bridge arts and care have been working as key workers. It’s time to look at this in the context of a universal basic income this would bring benefits for mental and physical wellbeing.
