Working from home

Suggest to employers to role out home working permanently for employees that would take up the offer. Allow the employers time to start setting up the working from home requirements in order for them to follow the health and safety that is required.

Even if it is a small uptake of employees that want this, it would allow a smaller amount of people within offices to return and give more room for other staff allowing social distancing in the workplace.

Why the contribution is important

It would allow a smaller number within the office to return(when they do) and would take pressure off some businesses that just don't have enough space for all staff to return. Could also have the advantage of some employees that have been able to adapt to home working quicker and find this is a far better way of working for them.

Great idea for maintaining physical distancing. Even better as way to deliver a green recovery. If we are to recover our economy AND achieve carbon zero by 2040 we need to make fundamental changes to how we live and work. After 7 (or 8?) weeks of lockdown and closed offices, converting to working from home has been much easier than I'd have thought - and has saved me something like 1,200 commuting miles, £100 in fuel, more than an hour a day (and a good few kg of emissions).

I think this will be essential for many offices, in particular, to be able to maintain social distancing measures. Many offices are open plan and hot desking has been the order of the day for a several years which is not sustainable in the current situation. There is an opportunity here for the way we work to be re-invented enabling environmental positives as well as better work life balances which will in turn have positive outcomes for mental health across the life course.
