Your own holiday home or second house

After lockdown starts to ease there is no reason for people not to be able to visit their own holiday or second home as long as they keep in place the social distancing rules. I was to reiterate this isn't air b and b or hokiday let's but your own personal homes.

Why the contribution is important

People can add value to the local community of their holiday or second home. Alot of these areas are seasonal it would help the shopsa

I respect that we shouldn't do anything to risk the NHS in outlying areas, but there are also reports of NIMBYism in the areas favoured by second-homers. As many (most?) of the so-called locals are incommers themselves, this is a bit rich.

Second-homers do bring economic benefits to such areas, renovating wrecked properties etc and should be treated on equal terms. We should at least be allowed to make occasional 'maintenance' visits.

As somebody who lives permanently in an area with a lot of second homes and holiday homes, the problem I can see with people travelling large distances to go to their second home is that they are potentially bringing infection from more populated areas to rural areas with less service provision. Obviously this could be reviewed as soon as it’s safer, as I understand people’s need to get out into the country etc.

It is the sensible thing to do, as an elderly person having to now live in town, the govt is putting me at risk. Get a grip on this NS.

People should be allowed to check on their 2nd property for water leaks etc. Neighbours would know all about it if there was a gas leak in an unchecked property

In the current crisis, second homes are not essential.

I am currently caring for my elderly parents in their home, meaning that my actual (only) home, a long distance away, hasn't been checked for a very long time. A quick trip there & back to check on the property is needed.

Could the restriction on visting second homes/holiday homes be considered. This is a time of year that essential maintenance is required. I am concerned that there could be issues with security, water leaks etc that if not checked could lead to significant issues. A short stay would suffice to ensure everything is in order.

If social distancing is respected, this is a good way to gently restart some rural economies. If not allowed to visit their second homes, surely the owners will no longer inject money in to the local economy? There are a lot of rural economies which rely on exactly this type of income. I agree, let's open up the second homes as soon as it is safe to do so.

I believe people should be permitted to stay in their own private static caravan. In my situation my caravan is much more isolated than my home and I come into much less contact with other people there than I do in my house. It is totally self contained so I would not have to use communal shower or toilet blocks. It is also within 20 miles of my home so I would still be using the same main supermarket than if I were at home and also the same hospital should I fall ill so would put no more strain on the local area than if I was at home. This would help greatly with the mental ability to cope with an extended lockdown.

I absolutely agree. In time many areas that enjoy significant income from people like myself will be glad of our support. We contribute exactly the same for services as any other householder. If anyone felt unwell you'd just get in your car and go home. We were informed that we were not welcome well before the official lockdown started

My second home is essential for the well-being of my husband who is in a very distressing carers situation and his only relief. We self-isolate rigorously and don't want to shop or mix socially when visits finally resume. We can travel the 400+ miles quite safely without using any public services except a petrol pump (something local people will already be doing).
