Procurement processes should encourage investment in social impact

The procurement process was a good way to build a fairer Scotland. Companies and businesses could be encouraged to consider their social impact if this was weighted in procurement processes when tendering for work. Government processes could assign 10% of a bidder’s score on the companies’ community impact, for example. Companies needed stronger encouragement and incentive to look at their social impact, and an incentive to do so. Commonwealth Games contracts by Glasgow City Council were a good example on this.

Why the contribution is important

This is important because people do not consider the impact of their business on the community. People feel that businesses will not change their practices unless encouraged to do so.
