Better information about government and services

There should be open government and more information available to show what local authorities are doing. This will support accountability and keep local people informed about what national government, local government, community groups and quangos are doing.

There need to be community hubs to keep local people informed. Local authorities should have a ‘go to’ person who is a non-political liaison officer for council community relations and councils should provide more support to community groups to navigate bureaucracy and nurture and encourage groups to engage with councils.

Why the contribution is important

If people are better informed they make better decisions, for themselves and for their communities and hold their elected members to account.
