Partnership working between NHS and 3rd Sector

Much excellent care is provided by the 3rd sector (charities and voluntary groups) and this can both improve the quality of patient experience and reduce costs and pressures on the NHS. For example, better community support services can make it easier for patients to come home which speeds their recovery, brings a higher quality of life and frees up hospital beds and services. There can also be wider community benefits such as making communities more resilient and supportive and providing volunteer opportunities

Why the contribution is important

Idea from Fairer Scotland Midlothian Planning Event:

Don’t cut budgets for charities who deliver well established services.

This is important because services provided in communities are more convenient, tailored to local need and can be cheaper.
