Social Prescribing

Social prescribing is doctors and other health professionals offering things other than drugs and treatments. Examples would be prescribing a gym visit, walking group or local history group. Many conditions such as depression and arthritis can be helped in this way, reducing the reliance on health and medical services and drugs.

Why the contribution is important

This stops people having to go into the NHS and using services that cost money and supports people to lead healthier lives, which will lead to even greater benefits.

Really useful. Ideally need a person based in GP practices who can develop relationships with local projects and service and put people in touch and even take them initially
