affordable housing for all who need it

Scottish Churches Housing Action hosted an event on Friday 2 October 2015 as part of the Fairer Scotland discussion.  We were gathering views about what a fairer housing landscape for Scotland will look like.

Our conclusions were:

“We want to have healthier communities where there is more affordable housing allowing me and my family to rent or own a decent and warm property.”

Participants were members of the Board of Scottish Churches Housing Action; volunteers; staff and supporters: about 24 in total.  They included, amongst others, serving and retired ministers; one elected councillor; a former housing benefit administrator; several people with experience of being in prison; a banker; a student; former housing association staff.

Why the contribution is important

We were clear that investing in housing for Scotland’s people is important, not least because good housing creates a better foundation for good health, better education and better communities.  We need to get out of the silo thinking that sees these are separate endeavours.
