Help startup businesses

There should be help for start up businesses as this is a way to create jobs and wealth for the area. If entrepreneurs are given help and guidance early on then it is easier for them to start and grow small businesses and create innovation and growth.

There are two ways to have more business and jobs in an area. One is to attract them, the other way is to grow them. Ideas suggested included a business gateway, and there was a wide range of support needs required, including advice including staffing (and why to pay the minimum wage and keep staff happy) and business growth strategy. There could also be financial support such as business rate relief and start up grants.

Why the contribution is important

Currently councils say they want to support people to start up businesses in their area - but then those businesses don't even get to tender for council work as they don't have a track record or aren't included in the council's suppliers lists. Such lists do exist but it is almost impossible to get your name on them if you are a new or small business.
