Scottish Government should be given control of the work programme

 

Participants took issue with the current Work Programme and thought that control of the initiative should be devolved to Scottish Parliament. There should be recognition that the private sector will not provide certain services, such as getting young people or long-term unemployed back to work, and the public sector must do these things.

 

 

 

Why the contribution is important

This is important because unpaid or low paid work placements are exploitative and seem to be growing in popularity.  Employers could use these schemes to avoid paying wages, and this was unacceptable.
