Fish mortality

I have concerns about the suggestion that badly injured/bleeding fish will have to be returned to the water if the angler does not have a tag.

With the best will in the world there is no way that we can pull fish out of the river with a hook in the mouth without a small proportion suffering injuries that will be fatal. To return such fish to the water to suffer a slow death is not only cruel, it looks very bad for angling.

Much angling is carried out in public areas and it cannot look good for passers-by to see dead or dying fish in the rivers.

Why the contribution is important

The law needs to be practicable. Total control of killing of fish is not possible unless angling is banned totally.
