Maximum Size of Salmon to be Killed

As a conservation measure, if kill licences are to be implemented then a maximum size of 30" should be stipulated. This would equate to a salmon of approximately 10lb. All fish over that size should be released in order to maximise the quantity of ova produced by hen fish and ensure that there are enough large cock fish for them to pair up with.

Why the contribution is important

If fish are to be killed then it does not make any sense to kill the larger fish that produce more offspring than smaller grilse and salmon. Killing only smaller fish would have a minmal impact on spawning success and still facilitate a harvestable resource.
