More support for community councils

Provide community councils with more support to get involved in development planning/planning applications and help with getting the views of the community.

Why the contribution is important

Each community councils vary in their ability to get the wider community involved in planning issues.  Some need support to get the views of the community to ensure they are representing the people in their area.  This might include helping to get them online, use social media, surveys and keep the community up to date with what is happening and how they can get involved.  Some are already doing this well but others need a bit of help. Using suggestion boards like this one on Council websites for each community council area might be another way to get ideas and suggestions for planning in their area.

Your suggestions would be a positive step in the right direction. If community councils are to represent the views of the wider community which they are elected to serve, more engagement with those who do not currently engage with the council is crucial.

Perhaps this could come from a stronger working relationship between local authorities and community councils, in terms of time and resources provided.

Community Councillors are volunteers, and to be able to consider and then make responses, time alongside of clarity in documents timorously made available are critical factors in community engagement.
