Different Approach

To look at why the devolved administrations took different decisions although they were using the same data to make these. For example, the use of face masks, covid passports, testing protocols for children when returning from overseas.

Why the contribution is important

To make sure that devolved administrations were not making decisions to create divisions society and push other agendas which were non-covid related.

The Scottish Govt appeared to be making things different for no other reason than to be different from England. This caused confusion and Scottish children are STILL suffering wearing masks whilst English children do not. Travel rues are yet another example - the result being that thousands of Scottish people chose to drive to an English airport for their holiday.

Agree with Caroline. Scottish children must still wear masks on school months after English children stopped, Scottish schools were shut longer, churches were shut longer, there are covid vaccine passports in Scotland but not England, etc.

Different approaches caused confusion and sometimes was not needed as scotland seemed to be no better off for having more restrictions than rest of UK for what looked like wanting to be different not for scientific reasons.

Scotland HAS followed scientific guidance, and continues to do so. It appears that they are in line with ISage on masking and social distancing in schools.
However with recent high figures of infections, the Scot Gov appear tardy in ensuring our NHS is protected by keeping infections low.
I am glad we still have masks and social distancing and would currently avoid going to England who have abandoned all mitigations.
I’m hoping Covid passports reduce infections in younger folk - some of whom will be at risk of long Covid and death.
Mitigations hopefully help our most vulnerable in society to get outside of their homes
