Information from the Government

At the start of this we were continually told that for most this is a mild illness requiring no hospital care - the evidence still supports this. Why did the govt stop telling people this and change the rhetoric to it being a "deadly virus" - was this to scare people into compliance with lockdown - the fear and alarm that this caused did more damage to mental health, causing unrequired additional fear and confusion - why did the FM and her govt not stick to medical facts and start creating a climate of fear and worry?

Why the contribution is important

My idea is important as this changed the way that the public perceived the virus - yet for the vast majority they did not need to be controlled by fear and misinformation - we need to know that our politicians are providing truthful updates and not shifting the rhetoric to suit.

It was clear the fear tactic was employed to encourage compliance with lockdown, which largely worked. Trouble is when they wanted to restart the economy and get everyone out again, so wany were still petrified. Then we had eat out to help out, get out, get back to some form of normal, then as we neared the end of the year it was time to scare everyone again I would rather we were given traceable scientific information to allow us to make our own judgements on how to manage the virus.
