School closures

The continuing in shutting down schools despite research showing that the school closures were having a detrimemtal effect on children. This seemed to be a measure the Scottish Goverement took in order to appease the teachers unions.

Why the contribution is important

Children have suffered terribly due to school closures - increase in mental health issues, neglect and widening the attainmement gap for poorer families. Children have always been known to be low risk from Covid 19 so why do this twice for several months each time knowing the harm it causes. Why has there still been no mention of an educational catch up programme?

    In addition schools have proven not to be areas of super spreading.
    Parents still cannot gain access to school buildings and are missing out on witnessing key milestones in their children’s lives.

    What was done to schools was a national disgrace.Mostly done to appease militant unions who didn't care what affect this would have and yet you took the decision to close them.September2021 and fear of closure is still hanging over them.Kids masked up ,getting jags no assemblies no parents allowed .When is it ever going to stop.

    Totally agree shutting schools was criminal. This has harmed children in so many ways. For what reason? To appease teachers ? Just so wrong .

    The government must never close schools again. I have a degree of understadning as to why they had to close initially as the virus was so unknown and clealry dangerous. However, keeping schools closed for so long was not necessary and did more harm than good. Look at the statistics of how many children have fallen off the school roll. The second school closure was a disgrace - made even worse by the length of time schools were closed for.

    On top of that, the exam fiasco and the continued uncertainty as to whether exams will actually go ahead is outrageous. No exams just means far more assessments than is fair or normal.
