Why schools closed in January-April 2021
The enquiry should examine why schools in Scotland closed in January-April 2021 despite knowing by this point the serious harms that school closures caused to children, especially the most vulnerable in society.
UK schools spent 44 per cent of days between January 2020 and July 2021 in complete closure. The only European country to fare worse was Italy.
In Scotland, secondary schools remained closed to most children from Christmas till after Easter, despite all schools in England returning on 8 March.

Why the contribution is important
The enquiry needs to look at the short and long term impacts of these prolonged school closures on children and ensure this is never allowed to happen again. Our children should never again have to sacrifice so much.
