In neglected areas like SW Scotland it's necessary to encourage inward investment to provide tourism services, indoor and outdoor accommodation, and sufficient funding for public facilities with apppropriate bylaws and an adequate ranger service. But proper consideration should be given to local residents so that they are not charged for continuing to enjoy their own surroundings (e.g. by providing them with free car parking).

Addressing the important issues identified by stubizz do not depend on the area being designated a national park. The local authority and the new economic development agency SOSE can help deliver inward investment, tourist infrastructure etc, without the additional cost and layer of bureaucracy which a national park would bring.
