Recruitment and PVG checks

One big cost to the NHS and the private care sector is use of agency staff. As a care home owner one big handicap with recruitment is waiting for a PVG check and references. With todays digital technology we should be able to get an instant criminal background check on a potential employee.

I think this is now possible in England.

With carers now needing to be SSSC registered and accountable it should be possible to verify if someone is clear to work without references from past employers as any misconduct is recorded. Can we have a carers passport or a system which gives them clearence to work immediately?

Why the contribution is important

The usual time to receive pvg notification is between 2 and 3 weeks! By allowing hospitals and private care facilities to access this data instantly someone could be employed at 10% of the cost of some agencies which would allow the current spend to be used elsewhere.

I absolutely support this. Everyone who has contact with vulnerable people should have compulsory ID that allows anyone - employers and service users - to check they are a fit and proper person with a quick phonecall or access to a website. There is no need for detailed information simply yes this person has up to date registration or not. levels of professional qualification would carry a farther yes or no answer.

Having this belong to the worker, regardless of placement rather than the employer makes total sense.
