Masks and deaf communication problems
Deaf people cannot lipread if everyone is wearing masks. Sound is also muffled if people are speaking through masks. There are other disabilities who will struggle to wear masks. Our needs are not being taken into account.
I recognise the importance of wearing masks but does that mean a minority have to be told "tough luck" so a majority are safe? It presents additional health and safety risks to our community.
There needs to be more clarity and protection for deaf people.
What if we are disciplined or dismissed for not wanting to wear masks or for highlighting our difficulties?
Why the contribution is important
The wearing of masks could be discriminatory towards the deaf community and other disabled groups who may not like masks for eg sensory reasons.
